Description

Diatomaceous Earth, also known as “DE”, is a very fine, white powder. It is made from fossilized remains of microorganisms called diatoms. DE is pure silicon dioxide (SiO2) and is non-toxic.

Food grade Diatomaceous Earth is often used as a mineral-based mechanical pesticide in gardens. It has sharp microscopic edges which cut and dehydrate garden pests with exoskeletons as they crawl over the DE.

Earthworms are not harmed by Diatomaceous Earth, so Diatomaceous Earth can also be safely used in Worm Compost Bins.

As Diatomaceous Earth does not contain any toxic chemicals, it is safe to the touch for humans and animals.

Target Pests:
Ants, Aphids, Beetles, Centipedes, Cockroaches, Flies, Fungus Gnats, Maggots, Mealybugs, Millipedes, Termites, Thrips, etc.

DE also deters snails and slugs.

Target Areas:
Garden Beds, Plant Bodies, Potted Plants, Compost Bins, etc.

Directions of Use:
(Dry) Apply using a duster or using a spoon, sprinkle a layer of DE onto common pest hiding places or garden bed. Ensure that the layer is not spread too thick or thin for maximum efficiency.

(Wet) Mix 1 tablespoon of DE per 100ml of water in a sprayer bottle, shake well and spray a fine layer onto leaves, underneath of leaves, stems, leaf joints and allow DE to dry to work (will leave a white cast on plants). DE will settle in water, so shake bottle regularly while spraying. Avoid spraying on flowers to prevent contact with pollinators. This method works best for targeting pests that hide on plants.

Tips:
Although DE is safe for human touch, avoid inhalation and eye contact of DE dust by wearing a mask and googles when using.

DE loses effectiveness when wet. When using on a plant or soil, avoid watering for a period of time. Wet DE will retain effectiveness after it is dry.
