Description

Peat moss is made from composted sphagnum moss, and it is often used as a base for soil mixtures. It has excellent water retention properties and absorbs nutrients in fertilisers to prevent nutrients from washing out when watering. Many home gardeners choose peat moss as it also improves soil texture and consistency.

Peat moss has a lower pH value and is great for acid-loving plants such as blueberries, camellias, begonias, and bulb plants.

Peat moss makes one of the most convenient sources of organic matter as it does not require any further composting.

Apart from being used in Hydroponic systems as a growing medium, peat moss is also frequently used alone or in soil-less mixes for seed germination.

The colour of peat moss will appear darker when they get damp/wet.
